Four Giants in Milan

ITALY 2014, 50’
Screenplay: Pino Farinotti
Editing: Franco Licata

Leonardo Da Vinci, Napoleon, Stendhal and Hemingway all occupied Milan intensely for a long time. Leonardo was in Milan between 1482 and 1500 and achieved great artistic, engineering and scientific endeavours. It was here that Napoleon was crowned King of Italy in 1805. Henri Beyle (Stendhal) lived in the city for twenty years, writing his own epitaph and learning the dialect. During the Great War Ernest Hemingway was hospitalised in Milan, where he met Agnes, the nurse of A Farewell to Arms. Guided by the Milanese writer Pino Farinotti we visit the places that were touched by their presence.
