Self Made tells the story of two women – one Israeli, the other Palestinian – who are trapped within their respective worlds. After a mix-up at a checkpoint, they find themselves living the life of the other on the opposite side of the border. This switch leads them to discover their innermost desires, the ones they could not access in their previous lives. Self Made was presented at the Critics’ Week section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.

Born in Tel Aviv in 1971, Shira Geffen is a playwright, director, children’s author and actress. Geffen has published five books for children and her writing has been recognized with multiple awards. After directing the short film Three Towers in 2006 with Etgar Keret, Geffen wrote and co-directed her first feature Jellyfish (Meduzot) with her husband, the acclaimed Israeli author Etgar Keret. Jellyfish premiered in the Critics’ Week section at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival and was awarded three prizes, including the prestigious Camera d’Or. It went on to receive ten Ophir Award Nominations from the Israeli Academy of Film and Television. Self Made is Shira Geffen’s second feature film.
